2015 An Unforgettable Year
As we approach the festive season and the final days of the year we can as a club reflect on an unbelievable year. Divisional winners in three grades of under 12 going on to win county honours in the C grade . South minor champions for the 6th year in a row with a county semi final to come on Dec 29th. Retaining the South and county under 21 titles. South Junior B champions, add in several ladies titles and any club would be proud of these achievements. The seniors capped off an already wonderful year with county and munster titles. 2015 has been an unbelievable year for the club and we salute all involved with our teams as players coaches and mentors on their wonderful achievements.
All involved are only too well aware that the results in 2015 were the fruits of hard labour over many years and we will not forget those involved at schools and juvenile level both now and in years past. The hard work by our club coaches over the years have reaped rich rewards at juvenile and minor level and are now beginning to bear fruit at senior level too. This work should never be underestimated as we celebrate senior victories. This work is now continuing with the young boys who will take up the senior mantle in a short number of year
As a senior club it is when our senior team enjoys success that the club can see the true results of the hard work over the years. 2015 has been a year at the top level that the club will never forget. Following a successful run in the group stages of the county championship the team had qualified for the county 1/4 final. After some impressive shows in the south championship we had reached the divisional final against a Kilsheelan side that were really impressive in their semi final win over Cahir. A really disappointing display from Commercials coupled with yet another top class show from Kilsheelan, a heavy defeat was our reward. There was much criticism inside and outside the club following this display which fell way below what is expected from senior footballers. From a comfortable year the team was now under real pressure heading into a county 1/4 final against a Loughmore side going for three in a row. Leahy Park Cashel was the venue and in the circumstances this was perhaps the teams finest performance of the year. With the whole year on the line the players delivered a wonderful performance running out easy winners and setting up a dour semi final with Aherlow. A dogged performance against the men from the Glen saw us through to a county final for the 1st time since 2012. The final opponents were none other than our neighbours and fierce rivals Moyle Rovers. In much debate in the lead up among football people there was no real favourite heading into the final. In what would turn out to be the best county final in many years Commercials came from six points behind twice to emerge victors by a single point. Huge celebrations ensued as the players enjoyed the victory glow after answering the critics following the South Final loss. We were now county champions for the 16th time.
The Munster championship is a competition that has caused much pain for the club down the years and one that had become something of a holy grail. The draw on this occasion seemed to suit with two home draws against Limerick and Clare opposition. In a game against Newcastle West it seemed for a long period in the second half that we were about to fizzle out as also rans once again as the Limerick champions led by four points with minutes remaining. As in the county final the team showed amazing resolve and reeled off six unanswered points in the closing minutes. The semi final saw a much better showing and an assured and determined display saw us through to a final with a comfortable win over Miltownmalbay. The Munster final in Mallow against a certain Nemo Rangers was a day that will never be forgotten by club supporters and players alike. Over the hour Commercials were the better side but victory depended on a late winner from the ultra cool Michael Quinlivan. Going to the break level at 5 points each and with the wind in their backs to come this marked a golden opportunity for the club to finally become the first club in Tipperary to land this elusive title. In the third quarter Commercials were clearly the better side but just two points in this period may prove costly and so it looked as Nemo went two points ahead with minutes left. The final 90 seconds of this game will go down as the most memorable to date in this club's history. A glorious final minute goal from Michael Quinlivan after a long deliver from Seamus Kennedy was simply the stuff of dreams. The final whistle unleashed scenes of unbridled joy as history had been written and finally after 50 years of trying Na Tráchtalaí Cluain Meala were Munster champions. For years the club wondered what if but few could realise how big winning this title would have been. As a football club from a perceived hurling county we were now suddenly the national sports story of the weekend. The players hugged each other, the relatives ran to greet their siblings and bedlam ensued. Then in the middle of the celebrations an air of calm descended as some of the players posed for pictures with a man 4 times their age. Club President John McNamara was surrounded and the players in gesture alone displayed what this meant to people like John. A lifetime of work and dreaming of this moment had finally brought the club to the next level. This was a day of days. There followed a most memorable trip to Ruislip in West London for an All Ireland quarter final against Tír Conaill Gaels. The players came back down from the high of the Munster Final win to become the first Tipperary club to compete at this level and celebrated with a comfortable win. The social centre following the game brimmed with large smiles, stories of old and a general .feel good factor as travelling supporters, players, mentors and ex pats gathered for a few hours. The year's journey that had begun against Moyne Templetouhy in O'Sullivan Park in Ballingarry had ended in the West London suburb of Ruislip and as Slievenamon rang out in the British capital the players and supporters could relax and enjoy a job superbly done. To all members, friends and supporters we wish a Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year agus Na Tráchtalaí Abú.

The luxurious setting of Dromoland Castle in County Clare provided the backdrop for the Munster GAA awards on Saturday evening last. 19 award winners in all were honoured at a prestigious ceremony. With Tipperary's John O' Dwyer and Kerry's David Moran taking the senior player awards. The night saw two greats of the past, Ray Cummins and Ger Loughnane inducted into Munster's Hall Of Fame. Among the glittering names of GAA in the province proudly stood the name of Clonmel Commercials as Munster's club of the year. Another first for the club in a year of fiirsts. Representing the club were club Chairman Derek Williams and club President John McNamara. The club of the year is awarded to a club recognised by the top GAA officials in Munster as being the best club through all ages and recognises the achievements of the club as a whole. This is an award that all members of the club can be justifiably proud of. Hosted by RTE's Marty Morrissey the evening was a hugely enjoyable occasion and as Derek and John moved forward to collect the award the reception they received endorsed the judges decision to name Na Tráchtalaí Cluain Meala as Munster's GAA Club Of The Year.
Commercials Are Honoured As Munster's Top Club
Commercials turn West London Green And Gold
Saturday's All Ireland quarter final win over Tír Conaill Gaels in Ruislip may not have had the same sense of euphoria as that of the Munster final victory two weeks earlier but the occasion and gathering at the West London venue will live long in the memory of those present. From mid morning at the team hotel near Heathrow it was evident that the mood of the players was good and the focus was clearly on the task ahead. As the team coach pulled into the Ruislip pitch the unfamiliar surroundings quickly became very familiar. Familiar faces had arrived before the team having travelled over from Clonmel earlier in the day. Familiar faces sporting the green and gold club colours acted as a great support even almost an hour and half before throw in. Wandering into the social centre one was struck by the numbers who had made a huge effort to travel to support the team. Many Clonmel people who now live in the English capital had travelled to the game and there was a wonderful atmosphere beginning to build.Inside the door sat Ardfinnan's Michael O'Leary whith his son Liam and grandson both wearing their Ardfinnan jerseys. Wonderful to see such support. It became evident quiet quickly that Commercials would enjoy the bulk of the support.
Shortly after 1.15 Kevin Harney led the troops onto the field through a tunnel of supporters. The following hour's play saw the Munster champions were too strong for a really gallant Tír Conaill side. Black cards for Aldo Matassa and Michael Quinlivan in the opening 25 minutes were worrying but this panel is made up of more than a e few individuals and their replacements Niall Kelly and Padraig Looram made big impacts. For a full match report please read here.
As the game entered it's final minutes it was now clear that Commercials were heading for an All Ireland semi final against Dublin and Leinster champions Ballyboden St Endas. The final whistle was greeted with huge joy by the travelling supporters. As the team left the field the supporters were back at the gate to applaud these wonderful young men from the field. The first appearance of a Tipperary club in a Club Football All Ireland championship had resulted in a well deserved win. The cheers and backslaps continued as each player left the field and as manager Charlie McGeever arrived from the field his simple words summed it all up "Job done" exclaimed the Donegal man with a smile beaming as he began to look forward to a Feburary semi final.
The gathering in the social centre afterwards had a great feel to it. Old friends met and recalled past days of glory and indeed heartbreak. There was plenty of chat and music as those present celebrated a memorable win. Those who had come from their homes in the London area spoke of the thrill of being able to see the club that many had played with as children and young adults play on their own door steps. Not only did the famed Clonmel Commercials club come to town but they had left with an historic win. The young players of 2015 saw once again at first hand what the club means to people who were part of the club's wonderful history. As each group left at different intervals to catch their return flights they did so with wonderful memories of a wonderful day. This day at Ruislip will be long remembered by those present. In a year full of history this day will rank as a special day indeed.

Quinlivan's Strike Re-Writes History
Clonmel Commercials 1-07 Nemo Rangers 0-09
On a day that will never be forgotten Commercials scaled heights previously not conquered by any Tipperary club in the past. Shortly before 3.30pm trailing by two points to Munster Kingpins Nemo Rangers it looked as we would be licking our wounds over the Christmas. Then a miracle in Mallow. When Seamus Kennedy earned a free in the middle of the field deep into the two minutes injury time he played a Hail Mary ball in the direction of the Nemo goal. In a packed goalmouth Michael Quinlivan climbed above two defenders, broke the ball down and it bounced kindly to the full forward. Quinlivan gathered possession ,moved to his right, turned and calmly shot low to Michael Martin's left to the bottom of the net. Cue bedlam. An incredible finish to a great game and an end to Munster misery for the club. The scenes that followed were simply incredible as grown men and women wept openly in scenes of unbridled joy. After 4 previous final losses Quinlivan's goal ended an agonising wait for Munster Glory.
Overall there is little doubt that Commercials were the better side over the hour. A little slow to start Commercials trailed by 2 points after 6 minutes but were level before the 10th minute as captain Kevin Harney and Michael Quinlivan each pointed. The early deficit could have been worse but for a wonderful last ditch goal line clearance by Jamie Peters from Brian Kerrigan in the 3rd minute. A steady opening half saw Commercials level at half time and the dream was very much alive. It got better with two points in the opening 10 minutes after the restart. Nemo who hadn't scored since the 25th minute waited until the 45th minute to register their next point. This settled the Cork champions and they dominated for the next 15 minutes opening a two point lead by the 28th minute. The dream was over or was it. The final minute of injury time will never be forgotten by those present to witness the history being made.

Juniors Are South Champions
Clonmel Commercials 1-11 Cahir 0-08
Clonmel Commercials and Cahir served up a great tussle in the South Junior B football final on Saturday evening. Although Commercials ran out six point winners it took a late Gavin Ryan goal to put this game beyond a gallant Cahir side. Cahir led with an opening minute point but tight opening exchanges saw the sides tied on 2 points apiece in the 7th minute. Commercials led by their captain Fergal O Callaghan gained the upper hand in the middle area of the field and opened a four point lead by the 20th minute. Alan Brannigan , O’Callaghan, David Lavin and Gavin Ryan were performing well for the Clonmel side. Three points in as many minutes from Fergal O’Callaghan David Lavin and a converted free from Graham Kelly were added to by Lavin’s second as Commercials stretched into a four point lead. Full forward Mark Costigan pointed for Cahir with 8 minutes remaining to the break before Graham Kelly pointed his 2nd free of the game. Cahir enjoyed a great spell in the ten minutes before half time and the sides were separated by three points at the interval following a good point from wing forward Darragh Howard three minutes from time.
The introduction of Trevor Creed at half time for Commercials had an immediate effect as the accurate forward pointed immediately . Cahir sub Johnny B Ryan pointed a minute later as the game went up a notch in intensity. Some lively exchanges followed before Creed pointed again in the 9th minute. This was to be the substitute’s last contribution however as the hamstring problem that had kept him out of the game once again flared up. A David Lavin free in the 17th minute gave Commercials a 5 point lead and it looked as if Commercials were going to run out easy winners. Cahir however had different ideas and two excellent points from Alan O’Connor and a Johnny B effort again had the margin down to just two points with 11 minutes remaining. Commercials were rocked by a storm of attacks from Cahir and but for a great Philly Ryan save it could have been worse for Commercials. Cahir continued to attack and looked likely to overhaul the Commercials side who looked tired. Torrid defence though by Tomas O Ceallaig and others kept the Cahir attack scoreless in the final 11 minutes. A Gavin Ryan point restored the three point advantage for Commercials before the county minor pounced for the game’s only goal three minutes from time to seal the result and give Commercials the south junior b title for the first time since 2011.
Commercials: Philly Ryan, Gary Hallinan, Liam Ryan, Darragh Phelan, Alan Brannigan, Seanie O’Loughlin, Tomás O Caeallaigh, Liam Phelan, Stephen Buckley, Mathew Hynes, Fergal O Callaghan, David Hoyne, Gavin Ryan, Graham Kelly, David Lavin, Subs Used: Trevor Creed, Liam Powell, Paul Wynne, Peter Powell.
Seniors Through To County Semi Final
Commercials 2-12 Loughmore / Castleisney 1-07
The seniors reached the county semi final this afternoon with a polished performance against reigning champions Loughmore/Castleisney at Leahy Park, Cashel this afternoon. Going into the game under somewhat of a cloud after an inept South Final display the team stepped up today with a really solid outing . Commercials led by five points at the break and the feeling at half time among the crowd was that this was going to go to the wire. Commercials' second half display put paid to this theory as they completely controlled proceedings to run out eight point winners. The ploy of lining out with a centre field pairing of Seamus Kennedy and Michael Quinlivan was working a treat until the 24th minute when Quinlivan was black carded. It is questionable that the foul committed merited or indeed was covered by the black card rule but it saw Commercials deprived of the influential centre fielder. Ian Fahey was introduced in his place and Ian was outstanding from here to the end capping off a wonderful game with a super goal 11 minutes into the 2nd half.
Kennedy and Quinlivan dominated the early exchanges in the middle of the field and with Danny Madigan, Jamie Peters and the excellent Donal Lynch in command in defence Commercials looked in good shape early on. Rapid exchanges of points saw the teams locked at two points apiece after 7 minutes. Heavy but fair exchanges were the order of the day as these tow age old rivals produced yet another intriguing contest. Commercials slowly got on top and were three points ahead when Quinlivan delivered a heavy mistimed shoulder on 24 minutes. A yellow card was expected for the sloppy challenge but to the amazement of those watching on referee Derek O'Mahoney brandished a black and so ended the involvement of the county man. This should have been a real spur to Loughmore but instead provoked a huge response from Commerciasl who pushed on to extend their lead to 5 points at the break
As Loughmore turned to take the breeze in their backs it was reasonable to expect Commercials having to endure huge pressure in the back line and while Loughmore did have good spells the defence were excellent. Fergal Condon led the defence manfully. Further up the field Ian Fahey was beginning to have a big influence and as his team led by three points after 11 minutes Fahey raced through the heart of the the Loughmore defence before excellently taking the games opening goal and putting Commercials firmly in the driving seat. If Loughmore were facing an uphill battle their job was made impossible just tow minutes later after Fahey again took on the defence before setting up corner forward Eoin Fitzgearld for a 2nd goal and kill the game as a contest. Although Loughmore did fight on they never threatened to get back into the game and despite a late goal Commercials were richly deserving of their 8 point win.

Disappointing Show In South Final
Updated 6/9/15
Kilsheelan 1-11 Commercials 0-06
The seniors were simply no match for a rampant Kilsheelan side in Saturday's South Final at Monroe. From the throw in Kilsheelan dominated proceedings and in a really disappointing display from Commercials they never really threatened to win the game. Scoring just a single point from play in the entire game was a reflection on the display . Kilsheelan for their part worked hard throughout the field and showed a huge determination to end many barren years and deserve great credit for the manner of the victory.
The management and players must now move on. Yes losing a divisional final is not ideal but with the concluding stages of the county championship just around the corner focus must now switch to the preparations for the county 1/4 final on October 4th. Players will know better than anyone that Saturday's performance would not be good enough on any day in senior football but there is no doubt that they will want to restore the pride of the club and will prepare accordingly. Well done to Kilsheelan on Saturday's win and we now look forward bigger days ahead.

Comfortable Win For Seniors In Opening Championship Game
6/5/'15
Commercials 3-18 Moyne Templetouhy 0-05
The seniors got their championship off to a winning start this evening as they comfortably accounted for Moyne Templetouhy at Ballingarry. A bright opening where corner back Shane Taylor opened the scoring in the 1st minute saw Commercials lead by three points to one after 11 minutes with two points from Jason Lonergan. Then Lonergan broke through the defence and blasted to the net to give Commercials a five point lead after just 12 minutes. Two further goals from Padraig Looram and Aldo Matassa midway through the half ended the game as a contest. A brilliant spell saw full forward Michael Quinlivan add four great points from play as well as a pointed free with the last kick of the half. Moyne's only response was a pointed free in the 26th minute. A sluggish 2nd half saw Commercials continue to dominate and while there was an improvement from the mid side there was never a threat to Commercials lead and in the end Commercials ran out 22 point winners. A good start without doubt but of course stiffer tests lie ahead starting with 2014 county finalists Cahir in a fortnights time.

Under 21's Sucessfully Defend Their South Title
Commercials 0-08 Moyle Rovers 0-05
Although it may not go down as a classic today's under 21 final in Fethard was a thrilling encounter in many ways. Spoiled somewhat by a horrible wind swirling around the field the players battled the elements and each other to gain the upper hand. Yes there were mistakes on both sides, yes there were some poor wides on both sides but they were outweighed by the passion and pride that the players displayed. Moyle Rovers opened proceedings with a point from Shane Lonergan in the 4th minute which was cancelled two minutes later when Paudie White converted a free in the 6th minute. Both sides battled for every scrap and with both defences working incredibly hard as scores were at a premium. In fact it was the 13th minute before Rovers took the lead again through Stephen Quirke. The response was immediate through White again from a free. Quirke again pointed ,this time from a placed ball. It took just a minute for Shane Flynn to equalise with a good point. It would take another 23 minutes for the score board to turn again as both sides struggled with the conditions. In this period Moyle Rovers would shoot nine wides as they were forced by a resolute defence to shoot from distance.
The 2nd half was 13 minutes old when Stephen Quirke pointed from a close range free to once again put Rovers ahead. Paric Looram pointed with a good score as the game entered the final 10 minutes to level matters again. When Paudie White kicked a wonderful score 8 minutes from time Commercials led for the 1st time. Jason Lonergan pointed from a free in the 25th minute and suddenly the winning line was in sight. Moyle Rovers weren't going to lie down though and an excellent score from Danny Owens brought his team to within a point with 4 minutes remaining. Once again the Commercials defence, led by the brilliant Kevin Fahey repelled everything Rovers could throw at them. Points in the closing minutes from Lonergan and Paric Looram closed out the game and Commercials were deserving winners in the end.
Players on both sides deserve huge credit for serving up such an entertaining game. Commercials today put back to back divisional titles at this level. This was last achieved by the club in 1984 showing just how difficult this championship is to win. Well done to all involved.

Under 21's Through To South Final
Under 21's Dig Deep
Commercials 2-07 Moyle Rovers 2-06
Trailing by seven points after just nine minutes the under 21's showed huge resolve to battle back and keep their 100% in tact as they recorded a single point victory. Corner forward Kieran Lutterell goaled for Moyle Rovers in the 2nd minute as Moyle Rovers completely dominated the early exchanges. Stephen Quirke pointed from a free shortly afterwards before Rovers were awarded a penalty in the 9th minute. Quirke dispatched the kick to the net and Moyle Rovers looked as if they could cruise to an easy win. Credit though to Commercials who fought back and when centre back Kevin Fahey raced forward in the 12th minute he had goal on his mind but his shot screamed over the bar for Commercials' first point of the game. Paric Looram goaled a minute later and Commercials were back in the game. The passages of play that followed displayed the great rivalry between both clubs. Exchanges were hard and fair and scores were at a premium. Commercials were at this stage on top but were finding scoring difficult through a mixture of great defending and poor shot selection. Wing forward Dominic Walsh had a point for Rovers 3 miuntes from the break before Brian Walsh and captain Jason Lonergan each pointed in the closing minutes to leave a two point margin between the sides at the break
Commercials played with the aid of a breeze in the 2nd half and were level after 5 minutes. Stephen Kelly pointed in the 4th minute before Jason Lonergan levelled matters with a wonderful free form close to the sideline. Luke Boland and Ross Mulcahy each pointed to leave Moyle Rovers ahead by two after 12 minutes. The game turned in the next two minutes when cormer forward Sammy Ryan claimed a goal and a point. Having pointed in the 14th minute Sammy latched onto a loose ball a minute later to goal and put Commercials ahead for the first time. Moyle Rovers were level again in the 22nd minute. There was a great battle for the final 8 minutes and it took a monster free from Paudie White two minutes from the end to win the game. White pointed from all of 50 metres after Commercials were awarded a free. Commercials held on in the final two minutes to gain a deserved win.

Minors Make It 5 In A Row
Commercials 1-18 Galtee Rovers 1-09
The minors' grasp on the Hogan Cup is solid tonight as the famous trophy rests for the 5th year in a row in the club. In Cahir today Galtee Rovers provided the opposition and a game of high quality was produced by players on both sides intent only on playing football. While Galtee never looked like threatening Commercials' reign as county champions they did perform excellently and battled all day. Commercials for their part delivered on the day a top rate performance to overcome the West champions.
Galtee Rovers opened the scoring in the opening minute through the excellent Shane Ryan. This was the only time that the Bansha side would lead in the game and this advantage lasted just two minutes. Paudie White equalised in the 3rd minute. Graham Kelly, Eric Walsh, Ross Peters and Michael Nugent added points as Commercials went into a 4 point lead after 10 minutes. Galtee however were producing some excellent passages of play and a 2nd point from Shane Ryan in the 13th minute cut the margin to three. By the 20th minute the margin was five points before a long ball into the Galtee full forward line was won well by Darren McGrath who turned and blasted to the net to inject fresh life into Galtee Rovers. Experience is not a trait you associate with minors but this Commercials side have bundles of it and they showed great composure in responding to the set back by latching on 4 unanswered points in the closing stages of the 1st half.
A good start to the 2nd half was required by Galtee Rovers but from a six point half time deficit they found themselves eleven adrift early in the 2nd half. The superb Michael Nugent goaled in the 2nd minute and from here there was simply no coming back for Galtee Rovers. Commercials produced an excellent 2nd half to claim the Hogan Cup for an incredible 5th time in a row. Paudie White, Stephen Kelly and Joey Doyle were all on the field at the final whistle to claim their 4th county minor medals. While without doubt no other player can claim to hold 4 county minor medals in Tipperary in either code I wonder if this has been repeated on many occasions anywhere in the country? Not many I would suggest. Well done to all those players who today won their 1st county minor medal. It is a prized possession.

Minors Make To The County Final
Commercials 1-14 JK Bracken's 0-04
The minors tonight made it through to a county final date with West Champions Galtee Rovers with a thirteen point win . The score line suggests an easy win and in the end this may be the case but throughout the game there were signs of rustiness brought about by a lay off since their last competitive action in the South Final in April. The first half saw JK Bracken's lead the way for much of the game. The Mid champions opened the scoring in the opening minute and led by two points before Jack Kennedy registered Commercials opening score in the 20th minute. Bracken's could have been further ahead if fortune favoured them in the ninth minute. An aimless ball into the Commercials square wasn't dealt with and it eventually came off the crossbar but could so easily have ended in the net. The sides were level at the break as Commercials gradually got into the game in the second quarter.
A good start to the 2nd half saw the game swing in Commercials favour. In the opening minute Jack Kennedy gathered possession 40 metres from goal. The centre field man headed for goal before unleashing a powerful shot to the net and send his team on their way. Paudie White pointed two minutes later to open a four point lead. It wasn't until the final quarter that Commercials eventually put this game beyond reach for The Bracken's. Seven unanswered points in a ten minute period gave Commercials an 11 point lead as the game entered the final minutes. Bracken's only score of the half came with just 5 minutes remaining before a further three points from Commercials.

Under 21's Are Divisional Champions
Clonmel Commercials 1-13 Ballyporeen 0-05
In atrocious conditions on a waterlogged field Commercials were comfortable winners or their 14th divisional crown earlier this evening. In a solid display there was never any real doubt regarding the result although to Ballyporeen's credit they made a battle of it particularly in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Commercials raced into an early 6 point lead as they started really well. A point in the first minute from full forward Paudie White set the tone. Brian Walsh, Padraig Looram and Ian Fahey added to the early score before White and Fahey had their second point each. The underfoot conditions were simply awful and it was clear to all that the field was unplayable such was the amount of water in large parts of the field. Tommy Sweeney opened Ballyporeen's account a minute later before a decision that left many baffled. Having been booked early in the game wing back Padraig Looram committed a foul in the 18th minute. There was dismay when referee Martin Doyle brandished a yellow followed by a red and Commercials were down to 14 men. Ballyporeen's best player John Martin pointed a free in the 22nd minute to narrow the margin to four points. An exchange of points saw the half time margin remain at four points
Commercials lined out without Seamus Kennedy and Colman Kennedy and now were without Looram so there was still much to do to secure this game. Commercials regained their six point advantage after nine minutes of the 2nd half. Ballyporeen continued to battle but failed to create any goal chance which was going to be their only realistic way back into this contest. Although down a man the strength of the panel was clear as they introduced a number of subs all who contributed well. Eight points separated the sides as the game died as a contest but a superb goal from Paudie White was the icing on the cake as Commercials claimed the divisional crown and now move onto the county stage and a semi final on Sunday.
Despite the poor running of this competition it is satisfying to win our 14th crown. The weather played a part in the difficulties in running the championship but their are grievances on our part that the South Board should, in our opinion have addressed. To ask players to play 6 games in 11 days as will be the case when Sunday's semi final is played is simply wrong and no amount of defending by various GAA officials can defend this. We as a club call on all GAA administrators to face up to their responsibilities and deliver proper player welfare to the most important people in the organisation.

Not since 2008 has the club been beaten at this grade which is a fantastic achievement but all the teams over this period. Tonight the team were simply too strong for a Newport side that has some excellent players in their ranks. By half time Commercials led by eight points to three .

Historic 5th South title In A row For Minors
Clonmel Commercials 0-14 Moyle Rovers 1-04
The minors completed an unprecedented 5 in a row on Friday night as they retained the t South Minor Championship with a seven point winning margin over Moyle Rovers in Cahir. Moyle Rovers started brightly and in the opening minute they opened the Commercials defence and it took a fine save by Jake McDonald to deny Danny Owens and Moyle Rovers of dream start. It was Commercials who registered the first score with a well taken point from Jack Kennedy in the 4th minute. Playing against the wind Moyle Rovers equalised a minute later through Owens who enjoyed a fine hour. This however was to be Rovers’ only score of the half as Commercials settled and with the aid of the breeze played some eye catching football. Jack Kennedy’s fielding in the centre of the field was outstanding as was the forward play of Paudie White, Richie Gunne and Jamie Aherne. It took until the 10th minute before Richie Gunne pointed to give Commercials the lead. Commercials then though took over in many areas of the field and added seven further points before the break. Five of these points came from centre forward Paudie White with both centre field men Ross Peters and Jack Kennedy chipping in with a point each. Going in at half time though there was a sense that this game was not over and to Moyle Rovers’ credit they delivered a serious challenge to the champions in the 2nd half.
But for a brilliant save by Tommy Morrissey in the Moyle Rovers goal to thwart the efforts of Michael Nugent in the opening minute the game would have been over.Points from Stephen Quirke and Jack Kennedy in the opening 5 minutes of the 2nd half saw Commercials lead of eight points still intact. A free from Paudie White extended the lead to nine points in the 8th minute as the game seemed to be going away from Rovers. Then a glorious spell yielded a goal and two points in just three minutes. Quirke pointed in the 9th and 11th minutes and Danny Owens scored an excellent goal between these two points to slash Commercials advantage to 4 points and now the challenge had been laid down by the battling spirit of Moyle Rovers. There was serious questions now asked of Commercials and fortunately for them they had the necessary answers. A real show of character saw Commercials regain their composure and led by Jack Kennedy and Ross Peters in the middle of the field they went on to score the game’s final three scores in the last quarter of the game.
Commercials have dominated this grade in recent years and a 5th divisional title in a row is incredible. Gavin Ryan, Liam Ryan, Daragh Phelan, and Ross Dennehy were excellent at the back while Paudie White led the forwards with a fine display. The foundations of this victory though were built solidly on the centre field pairing of Jack Kennedy and Ross Peters.
