In Defeat The Club's Seniors Are Lauded
Following the wonderful journey that brought the club county and provincial glory it finally came to an end at O'Moore Park in Portlaoise on Saturday evening. Defeat in extra time to Dublin and Leinster champions Ballyboden St Endas was a bitter pill to swallow made worse by the fact that for 57 of the 60 minutes of normal time we were the better side. After a nervy start by both sides the game settled into a really good contest by two teams intent on playing gaelic football in the way it should be played. Since the defeat much comment has been written and spoken about the ifs and buts but one constant is the agreement among journalists and commentators of the quality of the game and how both sides contributed to a wonderful game. Except for a horrendous foul on Jason Lonergan 7 minutes from time which saw the dismissal of Ballyboden's Declan O'Mahoney the game was played in a terrific spirit. . The team were so close to reaching the Mecca of Croke Park and an All Ireland final that defeat was even harder to take. However throughout this wonderful run the club earned many friends. The style of football played by Commercials has been a source of much comment. Click on the links below to read some of the match reports and comment . The Joe.ie is likely to provoke much debate..
